The painting “Garden of Zen” by Frank Hong gets a nearly perfect mountain wallpaper review. It is a beautiful piece of art with great lighting, shading, and details.
This matte painting depicts a beautiful Asian village in the middle of a lush mountain valley. A stream and waterfall create interest and movement in the piece starting at the left hand side. The mountains look rocky, but green and lush. The picture looks like a quiet morning.
“Garden of Zen” creates so much for the eye to take in with its incredible layering. This creates a great three dimensional feel. It takes a few minutes of studying to appreciate the entire image. The item that draws the attention first is the source of light at the top of the hills. The only thing that may confuse somebody is the sphere at the crest of the mountains. This could be depicting the sun, but does not seem to be the source of light, as the light looks as if it is coming from behind the clouds. This sphere looks as though it was meant to be a main focus since it is almost right in the middle and right by the source of light. The artist does not make the translation perfectly clear.
Another striking aspect is the incredible detail. The light values coming across the painting are perfect. The light is depicted by a lining on each rooftop, and on each rock on the mountain range. No detail was overlooked in this painting. Every single rooftop in the village is beautiful, and there is no stone forgotten. Every piece of this painting has its own perfect place, creating an awesome balance of each element in the painting.
The title “Garden of Zen” is a perfect match to this piece of art. Every aspect of this artwork looks as though it was created to inspire feelings of serenity and peace to anybody who may appreciate it. None of the shades used are very intense, which adds to the peace. The lovely, mild tones are mixed with the intensity of the jagged rocks of the mountains creating an interesting contrast. Another noticeable contrast which adds interest is the village. The perfect, clean lines of the village against the jagged mountainside create a neat effect. The eyes seem to be dragged against their will along every line in the image.
Frank Hong’s “Garden of Zen” gets a great mountain wallpaper review, and it is a great choice of art to add to any office desktop.
