This is because the as the colors draw away from the foreground they become more muted and blend into various hues of gray and brown.
The top portion of the picture looks very reminiscent of the old brown and yellow type of photographs while the bottom half has more color. It could be a good image to use for contemplation. One could ponder whether the light coming through the darkened cloud is representative of a storm which is advancing or retreating. The top of the image consists of a night sky view, complete with a large moon and tons of stars. As your eyes move downward, the sky changes to look more like a sun setting through clouds, with its diffuse light gently shining through. This could seem out of place, however, the way it was done, the sun through clouds section blends wonderfully into the night sky above. The overall affect of this is somewhat haunting but also quite lovely.

Eventually the horizon meets the ocean, and you can see a silhouette of a large building on a hill in the corner of the image. This building adds a nice bit of detail to the image–it’s far off enough in the distance (therefore small enough) not to be too distracting, and it adds a bit of intrigue as well. When you look at the picture, you see the ocean leading toward the building, which can make the viewer feel as though he/she wants to enter the picture to go find the building. The detail of a small wave breaking along the shore of the hill is a nice touch.

As the eye moves down into the foreground, it finds a rocky shore with breaking waves. The breaking waves add a nice bit of movement to the picture, and the rocks and sticks along the shoreline give the beach a beautifully creepy uninhabited look. The right corner of the image is quite dark and the scenery vague, while the left corner is much lighter, revealing the rocky path leading towards the distant building. This type of lighting does not quite make sense when the image is taken as a whole, but the difference in lighting does create a more interesting visual.

Overall, this wallpaper creates a sense of solitude, maybe even a vague sense of creepiness, and the building in the background adds a sense of longing and adventure. As ocean wallpapers go, it’s definitely darker and eerier than most, but it’s also quite interesting and evocative.

On first looking at Andree Wallin’s “Mountain Tops” painting, I feel a sense of being drawn upward in space. I am getting an eye level view of some very high mountains, without the labor of climbing and the health risk of altitude sickness. Wait a minute, maybe I am feeling a bit of altitude sickness! No, it is just fear of heights from looking down on those clouds.
The dark foreground and the bright sky in the back which I take to represent the “future” appeal to me. But my eyes continually return to the clouds in that high valley. What a wonderful place for adventure would be in that mist. Is it Shangra La or Brigadoon? I do not care for the summit so much, but I adore the mist. I want to go there.
The mountains, the clouds and the blue sky are just a backdrop for the misty valley. The shadows on the mountains have no appeal. The darkness of those mountains overpower the shadows and  even the darkness of the rain filled clouds. There is no storm or tumult in this painting.  There is no peace or solitude either, just the intense longing for a Shangra La.
I can hear Bloody Mary singing “Come away” from “Bali H’ai”. Can you hear it?

The softness of the mist in that valley cancels the rough and ragged mountain tops. I am drawn to the obscure and gloaming valley. Yes, it is twilight or just before twilight, and not daybreak, folding this scene in its embrace.

I do not expect to find heather growing in that valley. What appears to be trees on the mountain on the right side must be glacial rocks. Oh, no, it is global warming. It is much too high for flora or fauna. Yet, I can go there. I, and only I, will inhabit that magical valley, and I will not be lonely because the mist is a living force that will cradle me in its arms.
Now, I can find this place inside me. I have a misty valley surrounded by high, eroded, and unascendable mountain peaks
in me. I am untouchable. I am invincible. I am in control of my destiny. Rats, no, I am not.
